Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW)
Summer Institute for the Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) is offered by the Less Commonly Taught Languages Program at the University of Illinois. SILMW provides a unique opportunity to explore the languages and cultures of the Muslim World while interacting with experts on the region. In addition to classroom instruction, SILMW offers a variety of extracurricular learning activities designed to enhance and enrich the language learning process, provide additional channels for language contact, and expose students to the traditions of the communities of the Muslim World.
High school students enrolled in SILMW will earn 2 hours of college credit and gain foundational skills in the Arabic language. Students will get the opportunity to partake in daily cultural activities in addition to receiving 4 hours of daily classroom instruction. SILMW offers students financial aid and scholarships to help fund the cost of the program.
